PRIVATE TOURS IN MEXICO CITY WITH AN EXPERT GUIDE
More than tours, memorable learning experiences...
Mexico City is a fascinating, complex, intriguing city that I love sharing with discerning travelers from around the world, whether you’re a single traveler, couple, family or a group.
My name is Maricela Muñoz and I’m an independent tour guide. I curate and lead private tours in Mexico City for clients interested in going deep on many aspects of the city including its culture, history, art, architecture, food, nature and how they intersect. I am an expert guide, well-informed by education in Anthropology and Art History and 35 years of lived experience in Mexico City.
On my exclusive private tours:
- I provide discerning travelers an opportunity to learn about the culture and heritage of the city and the region.
- I present a multidisciplinary approach integrating the history and modern day culture with Art History, Anthropology, Archaeology, Architecture & Urbanism, Sociology, local Gastronomy, nature, environment, and more.
- Together, we immerse ourselves in the local culture examining and unwrapping cultural stereotypes as much as possible.
- I carefully design the program according to your schedule and individual interests.
- Are you a foodie and curious about authentic Mexican food? I am too! I’d love to include traditional food tastings in your tour program and create a custom Food & Culture tour.
We will explore everyday life in one of the most vibrant and diverse cities in the world and discuss its history and modern reality in depth with enriching conversations and memories you will cherish.
Looking forward to meeting you in Mexico City!
Dalya Sachs2024-12-06 Maricela Muñoz's instincts as a tour guide are next to unparalleled in my travel experience: she is deeply knowledgable but also, importantly, intuitive and adept as a communicator, Her English is nuanced and completely fluent -- as is her French and Italian! She toured us for two half-days and was able to give us a compact yet deeply meaningful and memorable introduction to Mexico City and its history, architecture, cultural richness and artistic traditions. Day 1 was a driving/walking combined tour of the central sights around the Reforma and Zocalo, plus some of the Condesa and Roma Norte. The amount she was able to fit in without overwhelming us was impressive! Day 2 began at the Museum of Anthropology, where she deftly guided us among the highlights, since we had only limited time, and then walked us to Chapultepec Castle where she walked and talked us through the political and historical developments of dictatorship, revolution and independence. All with good humor, great insights, and truly generous spirit. Maricela is an outstanding guide -- book her services and you will not be disappointed! UPDATE: One year later, we returned to CDMX with friends who have never been, and we hired Maricela for a second time, for two back to back days. We all learned so much, and did and saw things we had not done or seen before with Maricela the previous year. She is just a delight as a guide and as a person. She engages thoughtfully and fully with questions from her clients, is intuitive about what will be of interest, responsive and flexible, generous and culturally astute. I have recommended her to several friends already, and will continue to do so. Do not hesitate: hire Maricela as your guide for Mexico City (and apparently elsewhere, too: she leads groups to Puebla, which is going to be my NEXT time hiring her when I can manage another trip!). SheriF2024-12-06 Full disclosure: I am not a serial reviewer. But the experience our group of 4 had with Maricela compelled me to write one. Simply put, she was outstanding. We booked a half-day private tour of Centro Historico in Mexico City (including a delicious unplanned lunch) and a full-day tour to the magnificent ancient archaeological ruins of Teotihuacan. Maricela's vast knowledge in and education of both archaeology and art history, coupled with her own international experiences, set her well apart from her competitors in our view. Her love for her hometown was infectious. She made our trip very special and left us wanting to return to CDMX. If you're heading to Mexico City -- a must-visit -- run, don't walk to Maricela to help you appreciate everything the city has to offer. Izabel Altenburg Soppa2024-11-19 Having Maricela as a guide was a wonderful experience! Besides being super smart and with an amazim curriculum, she is very lively and fun. We went in a group of 6 friends to Teotihuacan with her, and it was great because it was a really hot day, and she saved us some unnecessary walks with the van. She also took us to a spot where there were practically no tourists so we could see what the original paintings looked like. The communication was excellent! On the way to the archaeological site, she also gave us several tips on what to do in Mexico City! Super high spirits! I would definitely use her services again. Susana Luna2024-11-19 Maricela our tour guide is such a fantastic fountain of knowledge. I was learning with her all the time. She made the 6 days tour of Mexico City so interesting and fun. We visited Xochimilco, Coyoacan, Frida Kahlo Museum and The Historic Center over 2 days. I would highly recommend Maricela and already have to some of my friends. Mexico City is a beautiful city and Maricela made it that much more special. Deborah Hansel2024-11-17 I have had the pleasure of participating in tours guided by Maricela on two separate trips to Mexico; Puebla and Mexico City. Not only is she a wealth of historical and practical knowledge, she is also a master of time management! Never too much or too little time at a particular venue. She also has an uncanny knack for answering questions before posed. I can’t impart enough accolades where Maricela is concerned. Any group, large or small, would be lucky to have her. She is a stellar representative of Mexico. Julia Seaman2024-11-17 I had the most amazing cultural journey with this wonderful tour guide.
